Chapters Transcript Setting Up and Operating the Kangaroo™ ePump Learn how to set up and operate the Kangaroo™ ePump. Hello. My name is Kathy Patton, and I'm the product specialist for Cardinal Health. Today, I'm going to talk to you about the kangaroo, a pump central feeding pump. I will walk you through the different components of the pump, the giving sets that are available, how toe work, the pump and some troubleshooting tips and tricks. One of the great features off the kangaroo e pump is that it's not only a programmable feeding pump, but also flushing pump. So what that means is that your patients nutrition is catered for, but also their hydration. Patients that are receiving Antrel feeding are very high risk for dehydration, So it's really assuring to know that your flush component off the pump will make sure that your patients hydration is catered for. Before I go on and talk about components of the pump, I'd like to just touch on our giving sets. All of our giving sits are compatible with E all of the feeds in the hospital. It depending on what feed that you choose to use, whether it be ready, toe hang or a decanter, you have options. One of this here is the three and one option, so This is a three and one adapter where you unscrew the adapter so it fits. Are ready to hang bottle. If it's already tang spike. Once the adapters removed, you can insert the spike into the bag. Alternatively, if you choose for decanting your feet, we have 1000 mildew counter bags to utilize. Okay, now that we've chosen our giving set in our feet, it's time to load the pump before I show how you load the pump. I just wanna go through about three little features on the on the feeding set. The first important feature is the anti free flow valve, so this controls the flow, whether you choose feed or feed and flush. The second feature is this approximately 10 centimeter silicon Paris static tubing. This is also very important in controlling the flow, and the third feature is a magnetic for China. On this magnetic retainer is vital in communicating with the pump, so if you choose the feet, it will tell the pump that it's feed only if its feet and flush giving set it will communicate to the pump. We're going to load the pump now the door is on the left side off the pump, so just gently open the door and you'll see firstly, a simple three step process on how to load pump. You grab the tab off your anti free flow valve, place it gently into the slot. Grab the Paris Talic tubing rapid anti clockwise around the Rocha and then place the metallic regina in the slot. Close the door until you hear a click. It's at this time that it's very important to ensure that your feet is above your pump and with the A pump, you need to have your feet 45 centimeters above your pump at all times. This'll will ensure the accuracy off your feet. Now that we've successfully loaded the pump, it's time to prime the pump. You need to locate the on button, and the on button is in the bottom right hand corner, the blue button. So just press the blue button. You'll see a little kangaroo running across the screen. Here you have two options. Clear settings or keep settings. For a new patient, you must clear the settings, and for an existing patient, you keep the settings. But for demonstration purposes, I'm going to clear the settings. Okay, the left side is your menu selection, and the right side is your information. So now it's time to prime the line. There's two options for prime ing the line you can auto prime or hold to prime, and I'm going to press auto prime while its prime ing. What you'll see is the water flush or prime to the pump. Then it will stop, and the feed will then prime. The feed will prime through to the pump through the pump and down the line. While that's prime ing, I'll just quickly mention the battery. The battery life for any pump is 16 hours, based on a 125 mil feet. As you can see, the feed is prime ing down the troop, and it will stop just before the medication in line port. This is where it's a very good time now to cap the medication port. Okay, so it's stopped. Now it's very it's optional. Whether you want to manually prime miss to the end, you don't have to, but I'm going to for demonstration purposes. So this is when you press hold to prime feed and you just hold the button until you see the feet hit the bottom off the feeding set. Fabulous. Your line is primed. If you're happy with that, you press down. So as you can see once again, menu selection on the lift information on the right, and it's time to connect to the patient. Connecting the feeding set to the feeding tube is very important. Remove the cap from the feeding set and with a very small twist, just a quarter twist. Connect. What's important here is Please don't over turn. We don't want this to be over tightened. Ah, quarter turn is all that's necessary for a successful connection. OK, so we're all connected now, so it's time to program the patient's feed. So we work from the top to the bottom. So the first but we press is a just feed. The next is feed right there you will see three numbers. You've got singles, tens and hundreds, and the arrows are adjacent to the lines. So I'm going to put in 50 miles an hour. I'm happy with that, so I press enter. Next is the total volume of feed delivered now This is also optional. We often use total volume to be delivered for intermission feeding. But if the patients on continuous feeding this is not necessary, I'm going to have 1000 meals for total volume delivered and enter. So as you see that, the more information you're putting into the pump, you will see it on the right side. So 50 MPH and 1000 meals to be delivered. So now it's time to program the flush press a just flush flush volume. I'm going to put in 30 mils. Recommendation for water flush is 30 mils every four hours and 30 minutes before and after every feet. But please check with your hospital policies and procedures. Interval is every four hours, so press flush, interval four hours and enter. So now you have 50 miles an hour, 1000 miles total to be infused. Ah, four Ali water flush at 30 miles per flush. I'm happy with that now, so it's time to run the feet so Preston and then run as it's running. Not only will you hear it, but you'll also see little droplets going up and down the screen, so you know that that's working beautifully during the patient's admission. There may be several times that you may need to hold or pause or stop the feed. I'm going to demonstrate. Three hold options for the A pump. First one is pressing. Hold. This will hold for 10 minutes. It will alarm after 10 minutes and the alarm will continue until you correct it. If you want more than 10 minutes, you just press clearly. If you want the infusion to continue, you press run. The second option is to press hold and then resume in 30 minutes. What this means is the infusion will hold for 30 minutes and automatically begin after 30 minutes. Third option is Katie. Oh, to keep the tube open. So just press Katie. Oh, on what this does, it delivers a small amount in significant amount of feed just to keep the two patent. You can increase the amount of time by pressing the arrow adjacent to the time, and you can increase that up to 240 minutes. When you're finished, you just press run and that's your three options for hold. There are nine possible alarm or errors for the A pump. The most common error is feed error. What this usually means is that the bag has run out of feet. This is an example of what happens with the feed error it alarms, and then you see three instructions. The first would be to check if the bag is empty. Second is there may be a blocked tube. On the third is that the giving set may not be loaded correctly. Just navigate through the screen and once rectified, you press continue. All alarms are very easy to navigate, very intuitive and easy to manage. How to turn the pump off, Locate the on button Chris. Hold for three seconds. 321 And the pump has stopped. I'd like to talk a bit about the new and fit connections en fit our unique connectors for central feeding, only introduced to reduce their risk off potential Miss connections. He's the range off connections. We have syringes, milk and medication, straws, adapters and the n fit cleaning brush. In closing, I'd like to remind you of two key points. The first, Please remember when connecting the feeding tube with the feeding set only a nice, gentle quarter turn. Please do not turn and over Titan. Secondly, often you may find that the ends off the tube may get clogged, so with the feed. So if you notice that there's excessive feed inthe e at the end of the tube, we have the end fit brush. So you take the brush and you gently clean in the cracks and crevices off both ends to remove any excess feed. Thank you so much for listening. I hope you found this in service. Informative.
